A GENEROUS UN GRAND CRU CLASSÉ

Located on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, Château Cap de Mourlin, a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, represents the perfect harmony between tradition and innovation. Nestled on an exceptional terroir, it benefits from a unique clay-limestone soil and a favorable climate, which give its wines power, elegance, and authenticity. For centuries, this family-owned estate has been a symbol of winemaking excellence, offering vintages with intense aromas of black fruits and spices, complemented by a fresh, mentholated finish. A true gem to be discovered by all Grand Cru enthusiasts. The vineyard spans 14 hectares of clay-limestone and clay-siliceous soils. These rich, well-drained lands allow for a balanced water supply, essential for the healthy development of the vines. The estate’s grape composition is 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, creating wines with remarkable structure and aromatic complexity.

A KEY YEAR : 1647

Château Cap de Mourlin is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Émilion. Founded in the 16th century, it takes its name from the Capdemourlin family, which has been present in the region for thirteen generations. This historical heritage, passed down from father to son, is a testament to an enduring passion for vines and winemaking...

  • The early days : The family settled in Saint-Émilion in the 16th century, playing an active role in the region’s viticultural expansion. The estate became a key player in the appellation.
  • Influential Figures : Jean and Roger Capdemourlin played significant roles in local institutions. Jean was the First Jurat during the re-establishment of the Jurade in 1948, while Roger presided over several wine industry organizations. Their dedication helped shape the estate’s reputation.
  • Continuing the Legacy : Jacques Capdemourlin, who has led the estate since 1974, modernized the facilities while respecting tradition. His contributions helped boost the international recognition of the Saint-Émilion appellation.

Today, Château Cap de Mourlin remains a family heritage while adapting to modern challenges.

IN THE VINEYARDS

Committed to eco-friendly viticulture, the estate employs sustainable practices to preserve soil quality and biodiversity. Château Cap de Mourlin is dedicated to a long-term approach, ensuring the continuity of this exceptional vineyard.

In response to climate change, the vineyard manager closely monitors temperature and rainfall. Precise data collection helps anticipate and adapt vineyard practices, such as grape variety selection and irrigation management, ensuring that each harvest reaches optimal health and quality.

IN THE WINERY

The harvest at Château Cap de Mourlin is done by hand, requiring a large workforce and marking a festive and rewarding moment after a year of dedicated work. Winemaking begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration, which enhances aroma and tannin extraction while preserving the fruitiness of the grapes through the use of dry ice.

During fermentation, remontages (pump-overs) are carried out using a nitrogen wand, ensuring a gentle extraction of color and roundness in the wine. The malolactic fermentation, performed in temperature-controlled barrels, enhances smoothness, microbiological stability, and balance.

The aging process takes place in french oak barrels, which contribute subtle aromas and a refined structure, allowing the wine to age gracefully over time. Finally, the Capdemourlin family, along with the oenologist, cellar master, and technical team, carefully assembles the cuvées, determining the precise proportions of each grape variety to enhance the character of the vintage.
